Second National Conference of Dalit Organisations

Second National Conference of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR-II) will be held from December 8-12, 2007 in New Delhi to raise issues and concerns related to dalits and other marginalised communities.

With support from the PACS Programme, the second National Conference of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR-II) would focus on ‘Vision and Voices of New Dalit’ the conference is expected to be attended by representatives of 1000 dalit and other organisations. Representatives of government, political parties, national commissions for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, minorities, women and human rights, the Planning Commission and business and industry representatives have been invited.

NACDOR – II will finalise a national dalit agenda for action for dalits, civil society organisations, support organisations and the government, and a memorandum will be presented to the prime minister in the concluding session.

Overall the objective of NACDOR-II is to strengthen the networking of dalit organisations and provide them a national platform to address their issues and concerns. More specifically the objectives are:

Mobilisation of marginalised communities around the issues of education, employment, health, habitation, access and entitlements of rights
Strengthening networking of dalits from panchayats to parliament
Policy advocacy and lobbying
Evolving a national dalit agenda for action
Mainstreaming dalits in the programmes of the larger civil society, including business and industry.

Initiated by the Centre for Alternative Dalit Media (CADAM), NACDOR was an outcome of a three-day national conference of dalit organisations (NACDOR-I) in December 2001 in New Delhi. NACDOR comprises more than 300 grassroots dalit organisations and has a nationwide network of committed volunteers.
