Community Radio: showcasing innovations

The UNESCO, in collaboration with PLAN International, One World South Asia (OWSA) and CARE India, is showcasing innovations and low cost community radio equipment and technology etc.
January 23, 2007:  In November 2006 the Government of India announced a new Community Radio policy that allows NGOs and community-based groups to set up and run low-powered FM radio stations.

This is a major step forward towards putting the control of the airwaves in the
hands of ordinary people and making radio a truly democratic communication medium.

There is now a need for civil society organizations to quickly make use of this
opportunity and set up radio stations. To this end, UNESCO, in collaboration with
PLAN International, One World South Asia (OWSA) and CARE India, is showcasing
innovations and low cost radio equipment and technology, and organizing a Forum.

We are putting up a pavilion during the Broadcast Engineering Society of India (BES) Expo-2007, from 1-3 February 2007, in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Its at Hall 10, stall B21. Please visit http://unesco.writeshop.org for more information.

We are also organizing a Forum on Community radio: Innovation, low cost solutions
and access on 2nd February. The Forum will be held at Hall 8 near the exhibition
from 10 AM to 1 PM. It is expected to gather more than 200 participants, will be
attended by broadcast professionals, bilateral agencies, umbrella NGOs, grassroots
community workers as well as community and mainstream radio enthusiasts. It will
provide the platform for community radio experts and technicians from India and
South Asia to present their views and technological solutions (ICTs) for the
development of communities.

Please note, we are unable to support travel, boarding and lodging expenses.
