Social Equity in MDGs

The MDGs and their associated targets  represent a powerful framework for equity. The Indicators linked to these goals aim to measure progress towards ensuring that every individual benefit the furits of development, have more voice and representation in public policy and decision making.

No Progress Without Social Equality


The MDGs very often conceptualized at national level. The achievement in MDGs Indictors significantly varies within countries are as stark as the variation or gap between countries.

These gaps reflect inequality in opportunity – people held back because of their gender, group identity (race, caste ethnicity and religion etc.). Such inequalities are unjust (HDR 2005) and the issue of social equality have to be clearly addressed. Without progress towards all sections of scoeity and the empowerment of poor and marginalised, none of the MDGs will be achieved.

This section of the portal provides access to resources to promote better understanding of and sharing of knowldege and tools for addressing social equality in all of the MDGs — from earadicating poverty to develop global partnership, the social equality as it relates to each goal, knowldege for advocacy and action.
